Introduction/Agenda

INTRODUCTION:

Hello to all!

The purpose of this blog is to lend a hand to those wishing to gain a basic working knowledge of security for themselves and their families. As the title implies, the target audience ranges from teens moving out on their own, college students, and adults who want to make their lives safer without having to devote large sums of money and/or time to the endeavor. I will not be filling these pages with a lot of technical, hard to read B.S. nor will I use obscure words or acronyms that only a select few understand. Any equipment I recommend will usually be low-tech and inexpensive except for a few necessary items that shouldn’t be purchased cheaply. If you enjoy reading this and also learn a little something in the process then I consider this project a success!
*I’m new to this but as a disclaimer I should note that all of the information contained in this blog is for informational purposes only and I am not responsible for anything bad which may happen if you choose or choose not to follow the advice contained within.* I don’t even know if I have to state that but in this lawsuit happy society it’s better to be safe than sorry…

WHO I AM:
It has been over six years since I began blogging on this topic.  My life has been very dynamic and I have not been able to devote the time and effort I would like to in this endeavor, but I have not forgotten about it.  I have spent the last 15 years involved in security in some way, shape, or form; 7 years in the Marine Corps in various infantry, anti-terrorism, and reconnaissance units, a little over a year and a half working in corporate security, and 3 years spent overseas as a security officer and site security manager working personal security details, site security, and drawing up security plans for multiple sites in the historic as well as scenic countries of Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently, I am coming up on my two year anniversary as a law enforcement officer and am half way done with a degree in Security Management.  I have visited multiple states within our borders, traveled to Mexico and Canada, and have spent time in different countries in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East both with and without my wife. We have both lived in apartments as well as houses, and I had my little 1 bedroom apartment broken into while I was at home when I was only 20 years old. Having seen the catastrophic effect one simple yet terrifying act of violence can do to a person and their family, my goal is to help those who wish to help themselves lessen the chance of, or lessen the effect of, an attack directed at them or their families and instill in them the confidence that they are not at the mercy of the criminal element that has been and will continue to be a part of any society.
Below you will see an agenda listing the topics I intend to cover but in no way do I want this to be a one-way conversation. I will be happy to answer any questions my readers may have on topics not listed or not covered yet and will try to do so in a timely manner. I do work odd hours and I have a family that I love so please bear with me.  I will add to this that from time to time I will deviate and post on current events.  As a matter of fact, when I am done with the agenda that is what this blog will turn in to.  I will continue to support the main body, but I think a discussion on current events is always helpful.
